The René-Lévesque Foundation is preparing to mark the centenary of his birth with the help of former Prime Minister Lucien Bouchard, appointed honorary president of the celebrations
“Like so many Quebeckers, I was in love, in admiration with René Lévesque,” Mr. Bouchard said at the outset in an interview with Mario Dumont to talk about the commemorations to come.
“For me, he is a prime minister’s model, a benchmark, someone who was in constant dialogue, in sincerity with several generations of Quebecers. I am very honored to be associated with the celebration of this very important centenary in the history of Quebec ”.
“The René Lévesque year” will begin on June 24, 2022 and end the following year on the same date, National Day.
“A series of events are planned, including an exhibition at the Musée de la Civilization in Quebec City, which will tour Quebec. All kinds of events are planned ”, detailed the honorary president.
Mr. Bouchard wishes to emphasize that these celebrations will not be a “party of the PQ,” but inclusive.
“Our determination is to celebrate it as a premier from all of Quebec, a model for all of Quebec,” said Bouchard.
Struck down by a heart attack at the age of 65, René Lévesque was never able to prepare Quebec for his death.
“There is his book that must be read, which is magnificent, but it is true that we were deprived of the rest of the life and action of René Lévesque. When he died on Sunday evening, it was the day before he was going to sign a big contract with TVA to do a show like “Point de mire”, which he had done. It would have been fantastic, ”lamented Lucien Bouchard.
