Renaud Muselier slams the door. The president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region announced, Wednesday, November 24 on LCI, that he was leaving Les Républicains, regretting a “political drift” towards the far right of some members of the party, including Eric Ciotti, with whom he had a pass on Tuesday. “It’s an important moment, but I can’t see myself there” because “all my life I fought against the National Front” and today “the question is simple: what is our porosity with the far right? The question is not at all clear”, asserted Renaud Muselier, who accused Eric Ciotti of “to convey Zemmour’s ideas inside LR”.
The day before, Tuesday, November 24, Renaud Muselier had supported Xavier Bertrand in the nomination contest for the presidential election. Replying on Twitter, the deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes, Eric Ciotti, had qualified Renaud Muselier of “Macron’s little telegraph operator”. Finally, Xavier Bertrand had distanced himself by writing that he heard “campaign with all candidates whose [s]we friend Eric Ciotti. “
Asked about the departure of Renaud Muselier from the Republicans party, Eric Ciotti greeted on BFMTV “a clarification”. “I am a man of loyalty to my political family”, added the nomination contestant. “I have always been faithful to my values, to my convictions. (…) We cannot be outside and inside, at least it is clear and I am delighted about it”.
