Remedial Guide | Animated films to (re)watch

The platforms are full of works released in the last year that are worth seeing. here is the top 5 animated films by our journalist Danielle Bonneau.

Turning Red (Red alert)

Pixar goes back to 2002 in the footsteps of Mei, a 13-year-old schoolgirl of Chinese origin, who lives in Toronto. References to Canadian specificity are fun to detect. Director Domee Shi, who grew up in the Queen City, takes an empathetic and humorous look at the relationship between a protective mother (voiced by Sandra Oh) and her daughter, who is learning to manage her emotions. When these become intense, the teenager turns, to her dismay, into a giant red panda. This work, fundamentally positive and joyful, will resonate with adolescents and adults, who will enjoy recognizing themselves.

Minions: The Rise of Gru (French version : Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru)

This fifth installment in the franchise with its twists and turns, which comes from the studios of Illumination, takes place in 1976 and tells how the links were forged between the little yellow creatures of terrible clumsiness and Gru, aged eleven and a half ( voice of Steve Carell). Trustees Kevin, Stuart and Bob, along with newcomer Otto, are put to the test. The mistreatment they suffer and inflict on each other is fun, but may be intense for toddlers. The young Gru again attracts sympathy and demonstrates that behind his dreams of greatness hides the desire to be appreciated at his true value.

Lightyear

Buzz Lightyear, one of the franchise’s favorite characters Toy Story (toy story), from Pixar, becomes the hero of the film that Andy would have seen, in 1995, and which would have encouraged him to want the action figure. The Space Patroller (voiced by Chris Evans, dubbed in French by Xavier Dolan) is stuck on an inhospitable planet with 1,200 people and is trying hard to bring everyone back to Earth. The intergalactic hero, who has not seen the time pass during his mission, learns to trust three recruits with varied backgrounds. Their inexperience gives rise to funny scenes and allows everyone to walk through the trials.

DC League of Super Pets (French version : DC Krypto Super-Dog)

Krypto, Superman’s inseparable companion, loses his special powers at the same time as his master, who is kidnapped. The other superheroes of the DC universe, including Batman and Wonder Woman, who rushed to his rescue, are also imprisoned. The super-dog (voiced by Dwayne Johnson), who finds himself in an unusual situation of vulnerability, must trust four four-legged friends. The latter learn to master the powers that have been accidentally given to them, in order to save Superman. There’s a lot of humor and heart in this computer-animated film from Warner Bros. Pictures.

About Crave

The Bad Guys (French version : The villains)

Five friends who have always scared humans (a wolf, a snake, a shark, a piranha, and a tarantula) delight in being villains until they pretend to turn nice to get out of a bind. They get caught up in the game and discover the benefits of doing good. Animation studio DreamWorks deftly blends genres in this funny, far-fetched animated feature that pays homage to spy and heist films. Fast paced, it has some violent scenes. While openly fighting against prejudice, the tone remains humorous until the end.
