Remco Evenepoel wins time trial for second year in a row

Having become Olympic champion in the discipline in August, the Belgian once again dominated the competition on Sunday in Zurich.

Simply unbeatable. Despite a very strong field, bringing together all the best riders in the world with the exception of Wout van Aert, who was injured, Remco Evenepoel did not tremble. The Belgian was crowned world time trial champion for the second year in a row on Sunday 22 September. Leading at each intermediate stage of the hilly course around Zurich (Switzerland), he beat the Italian Filippo Ganna by six seconds. Another Italian, Edoardo Affini, completed the podium at 54 seconds.

He can still increase this total, knowing that he is among the favorites for next Sunday’s road race and for the Italian classics at the end of the season, including the Tour of Lombardy, on the 12th october.

As for the two French riders lined up, Bruno Armirail took 11th place at 2’04” and Thibault Guernalec had to settle for 21st place at 3’13”. The French contingent will have the opportunity to do better on Wednesday, in the team relay event, then next weekend for the women’s and men’s road races.
