A very difficult penultimate day. The 20th stage of the Tour of Spain, Saturday September 16, offers the peloton the longest route of these three weeks with 208 kilometers to cover between Manzanares El Real and Guadarrama. The profile is nothing like a long straight line towards the arrival in Madrid on Sunday: ten 3rd category climbs listed for a total of 4,000 meters of elevation gain are on the program.

“The route does not involve a particularly arduous climb, explains Fernando Escartin, the technical director of the event. The terrain is very winding and very fast, and there is hardly any time to relax. Including on the descents.” A priori, Sepp Kuss (Jumbo-Visma) should not be worried by his teammates, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard and the Slovenian Primoz Roglic, to keep his red tunic as leader of the general classification.
