The kick-off of the 2023 World Cup was given on Thursday with a show organized at Eden Park in Auckland, before the opening match between New Zealand and Norway.
Accustomed to the haka of the All Blacks, Eden Park in Auckland vibrated to the rhythm of paintings featuring Maori traditions and women’s football, Thursday July 20, on the occasion of the opening ceremony of this 2023 World Cup (which takes place from July 20 to August 20). A ten-minute show to officially launch the competition ahead of the first match in Group A, between New Zealand, co-host of the competition with Australia, and Norway.
Contingents representing the 32 nations present in Oceania this summer performed on the lawn, while New Zealand artist BENEE, accompanied by Australian Mallrat, performed the official song of this competition “Do it again”. Day one of the World Cup, however, was marked by an earlier shooting in downtown Auckland that left three people dead, including the suspected perpetrator.
