For 20 minutes, the sovereign recalled the importance of the links between the United Kingdom and France, as well as the importance of the fight for climate and biodiversity and the unwavering support of the two countries for Ukraine.
An ovation to finish. King Charles III spoke on Thursday September 21 for 20 minutes to 300 parliamentarians in the Senate. During this speech, the sovereign, alternating between French and the language of Shakespeare, recalled the importance of the relationship between London and Paris.

“The United Kingdom will always be one of France’s closest allies and one of its best friends”, did he declare. He committed to ” “do everything in your power to strengthen the vital relationship between the United Kingdom and France.”

The sovereign, with strong environmental convictions, proposed that the two countries commit to an “Agreement for Sustainability” in order to respond “more efficiently” has “the global emergency in terms of climate and biodiversity”. Inspired by the Entente Cordiale, a text signed in 1904 by the two countries to iron out their very strong differences at the time, the monarch justified this initiative in the name of “the example of the past” in order to “meet the immense challenges of the world around us”.
The monarch also spoke about the conflict in Ukraine and assured the support of the United Kingdom and France for Ukraine. “Together, we are unwavering in our determination that Ukraine will triumph and our cherished freedoms will prevail.”he declared, denouncing the“unjustified aggression on our Continent”.
