After beating England at Twickenham last week, Scotland went for their second home victory against Wales on Saturday in the Six Nations Championship.

In Edinburgh, in their lair of Murrayfield, the Scots struck a blow on this second day of the Six Nations Tournament. By winning against Wales (35-7), Gregor Townsend’s players ended their home losing streak against Leek XV, which had been running since 2017.

30th minute: Turner rewards Scottish dominance

After two penalties from Finn Russell, George Turner came to put his people on track by flattening the ball in the in-goal after getting out of the maul (11-0). A first test deserved in view of the Scottish domination, and validated after using the video.

Already in the lead thanks to two penalties from Finn Russell, Scotland widened their lead on a try from hooker George Turner.  The XV du Chardon leads 13-0 against Wales after 30 minutes of play.

31st minute: Owens and the Welsh fight back

After a complicated start to the match where they were jostled in all areas of the game, the Welsh regained hope. By taking the option of the penaltouch on a Scottish foul, hooker and captain Ken Owens manages to carry the ball and flatten to reduce the gap (13-7).

The Welsh are talking about the power of their pack to sanction Scotland, reduced to 14. Ken Owens is finishing an example of the ball carried to register a try converted by Dan Biggar.  The Leek XV opens its counter at Murrayfield (13-7).

51st minute: Russell’s vista

Again more enterprising after returning from the locker room, the Scots increased their lead thanks to a nice movement from Finn Russell, who made his winger Kyle Steyn shine by serving him with a delicious chistera (20-7).

58th minute: the double for Steyn

Same duo, same conclusion. Russell managed to find Steyn with a pass on foot, which went flat without opposition after the exclusion for ten minutes of the Welsh back (25-7).

Touch of George Turner, stroke of genius of Finn Russell and conclusion of Kyle Steyn.  In five minutes, the Scots scored two tries in a similar pattern.  After a chistera, Finn Russell this time kicks a masterful cross for a double from Kyle Steyn.  25 to 7 for the Chardon with 20 minutes to go.

71st minute: Kinghorn continues the recital

Still at the wand, Finn Russell transmitted to Duhan van der Merwe at the foot. The latter managed to accelerate along the line, before putting away Kinghorn for the fourth Scottish try (30-7).

Blair Kinghorn wanted to join the party, so the Scottish back went to flatten the swelling in the Welsh in-goal (30-7).  A 4th try synonymous with an offensive bonus for an XV du Chardon in demonstration before playing the Blues, on February 26th.

79th minute: Fagerson for the last slap

Barely a minute before the final whistle, Matt Fagerson came to complete the bill by scoring in the corner the fifth try of XV du Chardon, future opponent of the Blues.

Murrayfield spectators will not have spent much time seated tonight.  The XV of Thistle scored a 5th try through Matt Fagerson and punctuated its success against Wales (35-7).

The XV du Chardon had not scored thirty points (or more) against the XV du Poireau for twenty years (30-22 victory at Murrayfield in the 2003 Tournament).
