Visit regional parks
Accessible for free or at a low cost, Quebec’s regional parks are a vast playground to discover. With their approximately 2,000 square kilometers of natural territories, they represent ideal places to take a breath of fresh winter air. The favorite park of Lisa-Marie Therrien and her family? That of the Massif du Sud, in Chaudière-Appalaches. “The view there is incredible! » During the cold season, you can go hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and cycling with oversized tires. And if you want to stay there for more than a day, different types of accommodation can be booked. The Grandes-Coulées regional park, in Center-du-Québec, is also one of Lisa-Marie Therrien’s favorites. “It’s a beautiful park. […] It’s quite flat. It works well as a family,” she emphasizes. An often important detail when hiking with young children.

Take advantage of free Sundays at the museum
Every first Sunday of the month, many museum institutions open their doors free of charge to residents of Quebec. March 3 will be the time to take advantage of it. Among the participating establishments, Lisa-Marie Therrien names the Musée de la civilization, in Quebec, which has “super beautiful exhibitions for children”, including My house, intended for children aged 3 to 8 years old. Her three children also love the La Boîte aux Métiers museum, also located in the Old Capital. “It’s like a huge games room,” she describes about this place where you can imagine yourself being a cook, a police officer or even a plane pilot. Entrance is not free on the first Sunday of the month, but the prices are rather affordable.

Visit your municipality’s website
“Often, cities organize free or inexpensive activities every month,” recalls Lisa-Marie Therrien. On the site of its municipality, you can make interesting discoveries. Dance evenings, shows, sporting challenges, carnivals: some municipalities are very dynamic. Attending an event in a nearby town can be a great opportunity to try out play features at a new park or visit a local restaurant to end the day, she suggests.
Turn to tourist houses
The tourist centers in the different regions of Quebec are a good source for stocking up on activity ideas. Lisa-Marie Therrien recommends subscribing to their newsletters to stay informed of upcoming events. On their website, most of them maintain blogs where they post suggestions for outings adapted to the season. On her Faventure platform, Lisa-Marie Therrien also maintains a blog to feed parents who are fond of family activities.
