The first Hamas hostages were to be released on Thursday, November 23. The truce was finally postponed to Friday, increasing families’ concerns.
Gaza is still under bombs, Thursday November 23. According to images released by the Israeli army, the IDF continues to target what it calls Hamas infrastructure. The truce planned for Thursday will not ultimately take place before Friday, November 24, due to last-minute discussions concerning the names of the released hostages and the terms of their release.
Qatar says negotiations continue
The wait, which is prolonged, is endless for the families. “We are in a principle of unsustainable lottery, of human lottery (…) we do not know who is alive and who is dead”explains Patrick Klugman, lawyer for families of Franco-Israeli hostages. “It’s like a roller coaster, you see the deal coming, you’re hopeful. If my aunt doesn’t come back now, I think we’re going to collapse.”, fears Eyal Nouri, nephew of an Israeli hostage. The main mediator between Israel and Hamas, Qatar considered that the negotiations were continuing in a positive manner.
