Ten prisoners of war were transferred from Russia to Saudi Arabia as part of an exchange between Russia and Ukraine facilitated by Saudi mediation. This transfer of prisoners was announced on September 21, 2022 by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They arrived in Saudi Arabia from Russia and the Saudi authorities “work to facilitate the procedures for their safe return to their respective countries“. Among them, the Moroccan Brahim Saadoun.

Brahim Saadoun, a Moroccan student in Ukraine, was sentenced to death on June 9 by separatist authorities in Donetsk for having fought in the Ukrainian army as “mercenary”. A former student at the Faculty of Aerodynamic and Space Technologies in kyiv, he was reportedly arrested by the Russian army in April in Donbass. According to the Moroccan press, he was fighting alongside Ukrainian forces in the 36th Brigade of the Marine Corps. The young native of Meknes would have signed his contract in December 2021.
