“Rekindle the effort”, Michel Robichaud | The duty

To survive in these days without a floor is to accumulate: if this third album only arrives to us now (ten years after the victory in Granby), it is because Michel Robichaud has solidly worked elsewhere. The benefit of this extended time will have allowed the singer-songwriter to practice a less conscious craft: the songs of Rekindle the effort emerged for no reason other than the need to breathe. “Can we get back to basics / To the place where we listen to each other,” he sings. But how can we listen to each other without really knowing that we are listening? That’s the whole problem, the whole challenge for good wordsmiths. Does Robichaud succeed? Not in The base : he explains too much. Not in Indefinitely no more: he still watches himself write. But in Glue to the stomachit sticks, it starts from within. The star, a Robichaud-Nicolas Gémus creation, allows itself the marvelous: “We can sow candor”. THE grooves very bouncy, the arrangements more than flexible, do the rest. Commendable development.
