A “climate of unpreparedness” at the top of the state
There is a “climate of unpreparedness” from Emmanuel Macron in the first days of his second term, “That’s what surprises me the most”, says Jean-François Copé. The former president of the UMP and former minister of Jacques Chirac believes that there is a “contrast between this kind of period when nothing happens at all, and at the same time the urgency of the subjects”, such as the war in Ukraine, purchasing power, security or pension reform. According to him, “we can understand it if there is a political alternation, but here there is no political alternation”.
“All this waste of time is difficult for the French to understand”affirms Jean-François Copé, who believes that there is “new decisions to make” and that it is necessary “fast enough for the President of the Republic to tell us what he intends to do”mainly on pension reform. “We still don’t know what the main directions are” of the quinquennium, he laments.
“Le Pen-Mélenchon: same fight”
“For me the fight, it is as much against the far right as against the far left. Le Pen-Mélenchon: same fight”, says Jean-François Copé. The former minister and former president of the UMP says to himself “severe” towards the Socialist Party, after its agreement with La France insoumise with a view to the legislative elections. “The PS has slept behind the far left and renounces most of its DNA”believes Jean-François Copé, who thinks that the LFI program “has nothing to do with the DNA of a Socialist Party from the great French Republican history”.
“There is a hypocrisy in France about what Jean-Luc Mélenchon and his friends represent. We speak modestly of ‘left of the left’ because we don’t want to say the real word. The real word is ‘ leftmost'”says Jean-François Copé.
