Régine, real name Régina Zylberberg, died on May 1, 2022, at the age of 92. After a rain of tributes to greet the one who was commonly called the queen of the night – a nickname she did not really like! – his relatives met this Monday, May 9, at the Parisian cemetery of Père-Lachaise. During his funeral, personalities and relatives had made the trip.
In particular, we were able to see, in the crowd, the face of Roger Choukroun, the second and last husband of the late singer and owner of establishments. Discreet and elegant, there is no doubt that the 84-year-old businessman was able to exchange a few words with the grieving clan of Régine, including his adored granddaughter Daphne. The ex-couple had met in the 1960s. The marriage had not finally taken place until 1969, Régine then having the ring put on her finger – in front of the novelist Françoise Sagan as a witness – for the second time after having been married very young to Paul Rotcajg. He was the father of his only son, the late Lionel Rotcajg.
Of this long love affair, which will officially end with a divorce in 2004, Régine said with her legendary frankness in remarks reported by France Sunday : “Of the thirty-four years of union with my last husband, we really had to share three.“Between them, the relationship could sometimes be fresh… In 2009, when she was promoting her new album entitled Regine’s Duets, she then told how her ex-husband had previously worked so that she did not resume the song. “He told me that I had never done the profession of singer seriously, and he was against“, she said in remarks reported by the magazine SHE. Finally, after listening to his ex-wife’s album, he put his judgment in his pocket and even paid her compliments. “He says I got my early trumpet voice back“, added, not a little proud, the interpreter of The Great Zoa and The little papers.
