Referee arrested for allegedly hitting child during hockey game

A 42-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a 10-year-old child during a hockey game in Quebec.

The Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) confirms that a call was made to 911 around 9:25 a.m. Sunday morning from an arena in the borough of Sainte-Foy.

On the spot, the police met the mother of the child, confirmed the spokeswoman of the police Sandra Dion.

There are also several witnesses who saw what happened, she added. The reprehensible act would have been posed towards the end of the match, when the child wanted to return to the locker room of the players.

The little player did not suffer any injuries, according to the police.

The man was arrested for common assault and released on a promise to appear. It remains to be seen whether the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions (DPCP) will authorize the filing of charges.
