Rédoine Faïd is as well known for his multiple robberies as for his spectacular escapes from prison. The last had seized the whole country. On July 1, 2018, the criminal escaped thanks to an armed commando dropped off by helicopter in the courtyard of the Réau penitentiary center, in Seine-et-Marne. After three months on the run, the famous robber was arrested in an apartment on October 3, 2018 in Creil (Oise), the city where he grew up.
Today, Rédoine Faïd is in solitary confinement in Fleury-Mérogis prison in the Paris region. There, once a month in the visiting room, he receives visits from his “friend” Yazid Kherfi, a former robber who has become a mediator. “He’s solid, he gets up early in the morning, he tells me ‘I’m hanging on, I’m not going to kill myself, I play sports, I talk, I read a lot of books’, especially philosophy“, he says. “I think that during his trial, he will tell the judge that he was in the visiting room quiet and then we came to get him“, says Yazid Kherfi.

The multi-recidivist robber also describes strip searches which he describes as “archaic, medieval means of retaliation“. In the prison where he was imprisoned a few months ago, these searches took place “once or twice a week”. Another particularity: the visiting room where Rédoine Faid’s family and relatives visit him is equipped with a Hygiaphone, a window making contact impossible.”It’s like being buried alive”, describes the 49-year-old prisoner who, given his current convictions, cannot be released from prison before September 2046.
