Redevelopment of the Camillien-Houde road | Longer “than I would like”, says Plante

The transformation of the Camillien-Houde road into a “park road” is slower than expected, acknowledged Valérie Plante on Friday, a few days after a new worrying accident on Mount Royal.

A cousin of young Clément Ouimet, who died cycling on this artery in 2017, was himself the victim of a motorist who lost control of his vehicle on June 8.

“The redevelopment of Camillien-Houde is taking longer than I would like and I know that I have already said that in the past,” said the mayor of Montreal, in English, at a press conference. “But we really want to move forward with a vision where everyone is going to be safe. »

“Camillien-Houde is a path that is emblematic, that is loved, to which Montrealers are very attached and that is widely used by motorists and cyclists,” she also underlined.

In 2019, the Office de consultation publique de Montréal (OCPM) recommended the transformation of the Camillien-Houde road into a “park road”. The Plante administration has undertaken to follow this recommendation, but it is slow to materialize. Concrete walls have been installed between the two lanes to prevent motorists from making U-turns, said Mr.me Plant.

“Following the death of my cousin, things haven’t really changed, except perhaps the roadway which has deteriorated further,” said Antoine Coallier, the victim of the June 8 accident, to The Press. “It’s a dangerous place, you always have to be on the lookout. »
