Red Wings beat Panthers 3-2

(Sunrise) Dylan Larkin scored on the power play 1:09 into overtime and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Wednesday night.


The Red Wings had lost 10 straight games to the Panthers.

Michael Rasmussen and Robby Fabbri scored in regulation for the Red Wings, who are 6-0-1 in their last seven meetings. Alex Lyon blocked 32 shots against his former team.

Sam Reinhart and Gustav Forsling scored the Panthers’ goals and Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves.

Reinhart opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 5:38 of the second period. He thus equaled his career high with his 33e net of the season, in addition to obtaining his 500e point in the NHL.

The Panthers led 1-0 and 2-1, but could not protect their leads.

With 38.9 seconds left in regulation, Aaron Ekblad was punished for hooking. Larkin scored the game-winning goal with 13 seconds remaining on the defenseman’s penalty in overtime.

Red Wings forward Patrick Kane missed his first game with his new team with a lower body injury. Kane will not play Friday’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.
