Red Sox take 2-1 lead in Championship Series

(Boston) Kyle Schwarber hit another grand slam for the Boston Red Sox, who crushed the Houston Astros by a score of 12-3 on Monday night at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox were already leading 2-0 in the second inning when Schwarber managed a clear slap to the right to extend the lead to 6-0.

It was the Red Sox’s third Grand Slam in this series, setting a Major Baseball record. JD Martinez and Rafael Devers hit one in the second clash on Saturday.

The Boston squad joined the Atlanta Braves in 1998 as the only teams to have achieved three grand slams in a single playoff run.

It wasn’t just Schwarber who sounded his staff. Martinez, Devers and Christian Arroyo also hit a long ball for Alex Cora’s men.

The Red Sox attack has been going at full speed since the start of the playoffs. She had at least 10 hits in a sixth straight game, which is the longest streak in playoff history.

The Bostonians have also hit 20 home runs since the start of the playoffs, tying their team record, set in 2003.

This offensive explosion allowed the Red Sox to take a 2-1 lead in this American championship series. The fourth clash will take place on Tuesday evening, again at Fenway Park.

With all those balls in a safe place, it would have been easy to gloss over Eduardo Rodriguez’s mound performance.

The Red Sox left-hander ran into trouble in the fourth inning, but recovered to finish his game with three runs and five hits allowed in six innings of work.

Reliefers Hansel Robles, Martin Perez and Hirokazu Sawamura then limited the Astros to two walks in three innings.

Meanwhile, the Texan team saw another of their starters leave the mound quickly during this series. Jose Urquidy allowed six runs, including five earned, five hits and two walks in one inning and two thirds.

Framber Valdez had only been on duty for two and two-thirds innings in the first game and Luis Garcia had only pitched for one inning in the second game.

The only RBIs for the Astros came from Kyle Tucker’s stick, who slammed a three-run homerun at Rodriguez’s expense in the fourth inning.
