Red Notice arrives on screens with the reputation of being the most expensive project in Netflix history, around 200 million. In short, a large production with undoubtedly vitamin pills.
The result ? We liked it. Nevertheless ! Because the scenario is botched. The reversals, too many. Some decorations at the end of the course look as if they were made from cardboard. Did we run out of money?
But the work of the three main actors, to which we must add that, impeccable, of Ritu Arya in the role of the untouchable policewoman Urvashi Das, hooked us. They are solid, they are good, they are cynical. Their sarcasm, especially that of Booth (Reynolds), made us laugh. They throw it away. But, unlike the story, they don’t overdo it, to our astonishment. Well done !
Pigging out here and there in the codes of “Jamesbondian” thrillers and camped in many places with magnificent settings (Rome, London, Valencia, Bali, etc.), the story revolves around a… missing egg. An egg among the three that Marc Antoine would one day have offered to Cleopatra. However, all these beautiful people are fighting to recover this third egg that a rich Egyptian wants to recover to reunite with the other two on the occasion of his daughter’s wedding (a passage as hacked as it is painful).
We will have understood the rest. From place to place, from city to jungle, from prison to lavish palaces, Hartley, Booth and The Bishop chase each other with Urvashi Dash always lagging behind. Fights, spurts of machine guns, avalanche of electronic gadgets, everything goes.
The whole is close to two hours and to complete the scenario, we used the good old string of bonnet transfer. This is where it gets spoiled. In fact, this old stuff is overused. So that the further the story goes, the more improbable it becomes. The story lines are planted unrelated to each other. The denouement in a Nazi bunker is rock bottom. Nolan Booth may well whistle the tune of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It is undoubtedly to hide his discomfort …
So, at the end of the day, do we throw eggs at Red Notice ? But no. We laughed. We had fun. Time flies. It wasn’t worth 200 million, but we’ve seen worse.
