Red Bull Cliff Diving high-diving competition will make a stop in Montreal

A stage of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will be presented for the first time at the Grand Quai du Port de Montréal on August 24 and 25, the organization of this event announced Tuesday morning.

Montreal will be one of the eight stops in the 2024 season of this high-flying diving competition. These are performed from a height of 27 meters, with speeds reaching more than 85 km/h when athletes enter the water.

Two Canadians will participate in this series in 2024, including Montrealer Simone Leathead. The latter, a rookie on the circuit this season, notably participated in the World Aquatic Sports Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, last summer. The other Canadian is Molly Carlson of Fort Frances, Ontario, who finished second in the women’s standings in the 2023 Red Bull Cliff Diving Series.

“Montréal is considered the world capital of high-flying diving. The arrival of a major event like this in the city only reinforces our position as a world leader,” declared in a press release Olivier Morneau-Ricard, responsible for sports development for Plongeon Canada and international judge of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series.

This season, 12 male and 12 female divers will compete in each stage, with eight male and female divers on the permanent team. They will compete against four opponents per category, guest divers who vary depending on the stage.

The Red Bull Cliff Diving Series will enter its ninth season in 2024.
