Recycling our minerals of the future | The Journal of Montreal

From lithium to graphite, through copper or rare earths, the demand for what are called critical and strategic minerals is constantly rising, to manufacture cell phones, electric cars or wind turbines.

However, even if the Quebec subsoil is full of them, these resources essential to the electrification of the economy are not infinite. In 2020, the government therefore launched the Québec Plan for the Development of Critical and Strategic Minerals, which aims in particular to develop a circular economy of minerals of the future. The idea is to encourage the recycling of these minerals, in order to reuse them more and therefore reduce our ecological footprint.
