Education: reconciling young people with the police
Education: reconciling young people with the police
(Franceinfo)
In order to re-establish relationships between young people and the police, days are organized to allow classes to discover the world of the police and to interact with its actors.
A somewhat special school trip. High school students from Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) meet at the police station. Sam, a BAC police officer, is the first to present his job. An apprehension reinforced by the arsenal displayed on the desk. Touching the ammunition is not enough to alleviate all fears. Young people can try the helmet, the bulletproof vests and even the armband. Everything to get into the shoes of the policeman. After the BAC, the students follow Major Virginie Mouillard, who shows them the police custody cells. The immersion continues as close as possible to the reality of the police station. The policewoman takes the opportunity to discuss notions of law, a way of empowering these young people. The objective of this visit is to try to reestablish the link between the police and young people.
Get out of distrust
The death of Nahel, at the origin of last summer’s riots, fuels distrust. So the Graines de France association, which has been organizing these exchanges for several years, is spreading throughout the country. Like in Avignon (Vaucluse), in the middle of the cities, where she offers fourth graders a day of workshops on this theme. Role plays, but also a free speech workshop. So many ways to think about their vision of the police. The day ends with an exchange with Avignon police officers. Confronting points of view, discovering people beyond uniforms, a long road to trying to escape from distrust.
