West Side Story’s Steven Spielberg adaptation raised $ 800,000 on its preview day Thursday, magazine reports Variety. A modest start which does not prevent the great expectations for its launch this weekend, when revenues are expected of 10 to 15 million.
The musical film from Disney studios and 20th Century cost a staggering 100 million to produce. Although musical films have not been the most popular with moviegoers in recent years, good results are expected for West Side Story (in the context of a pandemic).
The film could also very well qualify in the race for the Oscars, according to some specialized media.
Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the 1957 film, over two and a half hours long, tells the story of love at first sight between Tony and Maria, whose love must triumph over the war of the rival gangs to which they belong.
