At Hyundai-Kia, 3,979 vehicles will have to stop at their dealerships for a software update to avoid their unexpected movement. On certain Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6, the parking pawl may disengage if the handbrake is not engaged. While waiting for the update, we recommend activating the handbrake each time you park the vehicle.

According to the Transport Canada fact sheet, a fire can break out in the engine compartment of the vehicles concerned, even if they are completely stopped without the engine running. As with any fire hazard recall, it is recommended that targeted vehicles be parked away from homes and other vehicles while waiting for a corrective action from the manufacturer. To check if your SUV is affected, you can call 1-800-565-3673 with the serial number in hand.
