The La Liga season has still not started, but the Merengues have already added a new trophy to their well-stocked list. Real Madrid won the European Super Cup against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-0) on Wednesday August 10, by enforcing the European hierarchy between the winner of the Champions League and that of the last Europa League.
At the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, Carlo Ancelotti’s men took the time to enter their match before biting shortly before the break through David Alaba on a corner (1-0, 38th). In the second half, shortly after the hour mark, the inevitable Karim Benzema doubled the lead against a not entirely blameless Kevin Trapp (2-0, 65th), who kept the Germans alive for a long time by scoring several stops.
With this success, the Merengues join Barça and AC Milan on the list with five titles in the competition.
