“Real Madrid needs Mbappé and Mbappé needs Real Madrid”analysis on franceinfo Bixente Lizarazu, after the official announcement Monday June 3 of the transfer of Kylian Mbappé to Real Madrid next season.

The former 1998 world champion and franceinfo football consultant believes that Kylian Mbappé will notably bring “his quality as a scorer” at the Madrid club. He found Real Madrid “limited offensively” at the start of the season, and Vinicius, one of the club’s star attackers, “Is very strong in dribbling, passing and sometimes as a scorer, but he is not as exceptional a scorer as Kylian Mbappé”. It is therefore up to Carlo Ancelotti, the Real coach, to “find the right balance to put it in the best conditions”.

For Mbappé, the transfer “was inevitable, he could have even achieved this a year earlier” because this last year at Paris Saint-Germain will have been “a year of tensions, almost useless, it was permanent spikes, permanent problems, not at all a peaceful year”Judge Lizarazu. “Certainly in terms of statistics, it was good, but it was not a very fulfilling year, the pressure he had in France was starting to become unhealthy”, believes the former world champion. Conversely, “at Real, he will be the center of attention, but as there is a collective culture, he will have a little more tranquility”.

For Bixente Lizarazu, the “timing is good”. The announcement comes after the Spanish club’s 15th Champions League victory, but “We will have to give up on Kylian Mbappé at the Olympic Games” of Paris 2024. The club does not a priori wish to release Kylian Mbappé for the Olympic deadline, after the Euro which begins in June and next season to prepare. “It’s unfortunate for our Olympics and for France”deplores Lizarazu “but it seems extremely risky to me from a physical point of view to go on to the Olympic Games after a European Championship and then arrive at your new club fresh and ready”. “The debut in a club is very important, and there is no reason to put obstacles in the way by stringing together two competitions”recalls the former world champion.
