For several years, prices have been climbing by the sea. A trend that has increased and accelerated after the confinement and the exodus of many city dwellers. Journalist Victor Frédéric was on the 13 Hours set to detail these increases

In downtown Dieppe, Simon Barbier, 28, is looking for a property for a first acquisition. This Rouennais wants to get closer to the coast, but you have to pay the price. The apartment is sold for nearly 200,000 euros, 70,000 euros more expensive than seven years ago. A far from isolated case, prices jumped 12.3% in one year on the Normandy coast. “I pity the young people who are buying at the moment”testifies a passerby.

On the 13 Hours set, journalist Victor Frédéric details these increases. “The trend concerns the entire French coast. The seaside resorts are popular with an average price per square meter of €4,467 compared to €3,020 for the rest of the country. The price difference has increased since the covid with buyers seduced by the idea of living near the sea. This year alone, prices on the coast have jumped by 13% against 7.7% elsewhere in France. Prices that make these homes luxury goods. “In seaside resorts, one in two properties sold is actually a second home, compared to one in ten for the rest of France.”
