Norwegian goalkeeper Kjetil Haug arrived in Navata on Monday evening to get to know his new teammates. Very quickly in the bath around in particular Maxime Dupé and Isak Pettersson, he confides to us his first words on his arrival in Toulouse.
How are these first days going with your new team?
“It’s a great group, with high quality players so I’m really excited.”
Did you know this club?
“Not really, but I followed what they did last year. I don’t know much but it looks like a very nice club and a nice town.”
There are several Scandinavian players, does that help?
“It’s always easier actually when you have guys who speak the same language. The squad seems very tight-knit.”
Why did you choose Toulouse?
“It’s an ambitious club, from what I’ve heard. And they play very good football. With the promotion to Ligue 1 on top of that… When you’re a player, you want to play at the highest level.”
The season was underway in Norway, so are you physically ready?
“It’s the good thing but also sometimes difficult when you come from Scandinavia. I already have fourteen or fifteen matches. I’m in good shape, but suddenly I would have done two preparations. It’s hard but it’s like that.”
Your ambition for the coming season is to be number 1, can you imagine?
“My ambition is to get here working hard, doing my best. It will be up to the coach to decide. There are very good goalkeepers here but I am ready to compete. It’s up to me to show the coach that my performance is good enough to play.”
Were you surprised that the TFC called you?
“They didn’t need to convince me. It’s a huge opportunity, I couldn’t say no. Yes I was a little surprised that the TFC thought of me, but above all I was very excited.”
