The media crisis got the better of the magazine Reader’s Digest. Its publisher announced to employees on Tuesday that the Canadian edition will cease operations next spring, reports The Globe and Mail.
The Toronto daily listened to part of the meeting during which the announcement was made to employees. The magazine’s owner cited declining advertising revenues, rising production costs and changing reading habits.
In Montreal, 10 employees also received a layoff notice in November, which will be effective from 1er January, according to layoff notices viewed by The Canadian Press.
It was not possible to get an immediate reaction from the American publisher of Reader’s DigestTrusted Media Brand.
