As they watched the closing ceremony on Sunday, dozens of readers shared the moments that most marked, touched or surprised them at the Paris Olympics. We give them the floor.

As Tony Estanguet, from the organizing committee, said, “sport is the most beautiful version of humanity”. Bravo to all the athletes, their entourage and the organizers! We vibrated with you!

Canada’s Summer McIntosh during the 200m individual medley final

Summer McIntosh’s 200m medley, an incredible athletic feat! What technique, what physical ability! Bravo!

Sylvain Gregoire

I have been a regular spectator of the Games, both summer and winter, since 1976. For me, these Games were the most beautiful and moving, from the opening ceremony to the closing ceremony.

Rose Desjardins

I am happy that most of the athletes lived up to expectations – some even exceeded them. At the end of Tokyo, I was already looking forward to Paris because of Summer McIntosh. I knew she would win everything. Also, I have been showing my students the Atlanta relay in athletics for 20 years. Now they know what an emotion I experienced. Next appointment: February 6, 2026 for the winter!

Andre De Grasse, in lane 9, crosses the finish line in the 4 x 100m relay event.

My favourite moment was seeing the Canadians win the 4x100m relay with Andre De Grasse. It was a very emotional moment for these men as it may have been the last time we would see them compete at the Olympics.

What always strikes me at the Olympics is the humanity of our athletes: the exuberance of Mary-Sophie Harvey, the leadership of Audrey Leduc, the resilience of the Simoneau-Lamothe duo, the vulnerability of Damian Warner… I was moved by this delegation. My biggest surprises at these Games: Thomas Fafard in the 5000m final, silver in rugby 7s and gold in the 4x100m.

The total number of medals won by Canadians. And the exemplary organization of these Games of another format by the French!

Pierre Normand

The marathon course: MAGNIFICENT.

Martine

Games favorite: Marco Arop, his performance, his personality. One of the beautiful testimonies in the company of Diane Sauvé, on Radio-Canada.

Paris the magnificent offered unique and memorable Olympics filled with emotions and life lessons. Ridicule doesn’t kill (according to the Australian breaking athlete). It’s the journey that counts, not the result (sometimes, only a snap of the fingers separates the 3e of the 4e The atmosphere is created in a group, and not alone in your living room. Sport brings people together and does good. Bravo humanity!

Phil Wizard became the first Olympic gold medalist in men’s breaking on Saturday.

I was blown away by the breaking, a fabulous exercise. The moves are incredible, and our Canadian Phil Wizard was breathtaking!

Lucie Martin

I was very impressed from start to finish by these Paris Games. Bravo to the French! You can be proud.

Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson win silver in beach volleyball!

I loved it when they played Imagine to resolve a tense moment in the women’s beach volleyball final.

The biggest surprise for me was definitely Canada’s gold medals in the hammer throw.

Paris won the bet. There were so many complainers before the Games, where are they today? Masterful, the French. Bravo!

Pierre Tremblay

These Olympic Games in the heart of Paris were exceptional. And what about the road race showing us castles in the suburbs, then the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre, the Sacré-Cœur… So many emblematic monuments!

Suzanne Bourque

Magnificent Games! Absolutely beautiful. Magnificent, from beginning to end. Thank you very much, France. It was wonderful.

Marie-France Leclaire

The competition that struck me the most was sailing. They go at an incredible speed and they go around a buoy without getting tangled. It’s going to be fantastic in the Bay of Los Angeles!
