Conflict in the Middle East: reactions of the international community after the Iranian attack on Israel

(FRANCEINFO)

In the aftermath of Iran’s attacks against Israel, on the night of Saturday April 13 to Sunday April 14, the reactions of the international community were not long in coming. Following an emergency videoconference, the G7 unanimously condemned the Iranian assault.

After the Iranian drone and missile attack, the international community reacted strongly. The G7 leaders, meeting on Sunday April 14, unanimously condemned Iran’s unprecedented offensive against Israel. Before the videoconference, the United Kingdom, which helped neutralize the rockets, was already calling for appeasement. “We defend the security of Israel and the entire region. What we need now is for calm to prevail”said British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The Arab world reacted cautiously

France also called for de-escalation. On X, Emmanuel Macron strongly condemned the attack launched on Israel. Traveling to China, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described the offensive as unjustifiable and intolerable. “Iran must not continue down this path”, he warned. According to United States President Joe Biden, American forces helped shoot down almost all of the Iranian projectiles. Finally, the Arab world reacted rather cautiously. In a press release, Turkey calls in particular on Western countries, which exercise influence over Israel, to ease tensions.
