RDS analyst Mario Tremblay retires

Former hockey player and analyst at the Sports Network (RDS) Mario Tremblay announces his retirement. He will make a final appearance at The Antechamber Monday evening, during a tribute show.

The 66-year-old made the announcement on these social networks on Monday noon. ” Good morning. Coming soon: man with 42 years of experience in the media as a journalist and presenter. I have worked in radio, TV and print media. Thank you”, he wrote, then specifying that this departure was a “personal decision”.

Mario Tremblay is an emblematic figure in the world of television and sports. It was when he retired from the National Hockey League in 1986 that he first appeared on the small screen as a co-host and analyst. Since 2010, he was a regular panelist on the show The Antechamber and commented on Canadiens Hockey at RDS.

Mario Tremblay also marked the world of hockey by playing with the Montreal Canadiens for 12 seasons, during which he scored 584 points, including 258 goals. He notably scored the winning goal allowing the Habs to win the Stanley Cup in 1978.

He was also the head coach of the Canadiens from 1995 to 1997, as well as the assistant coach for the Minnesota Wild and the New Jersey Devils, alongside Jacques Lemaire, his former teammate with the Canadiens.

“His passion for hockey, his outspokenness and his innate talent as a communicator have made Mario an outstanding personality in the history of RDS. Our entire team wishes him well-deserved rest, bionic health and that he remains forever a friend of RDS,” said Charles Perreault, General Manager of RDS, in a press release.

The Antechamber will pay tribute to him on Monday evening at 7 p.m. Mario Tremblay will be surrounded by Guy Carbonneau, Vincent Damphousse, Benoit Brunet, Gaston Therrien and host Luc Bellemare for the occasion.
