RCMP to investigate exclusion of land from Ontario’s Greenbelt

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have launched an investigation into the Ontario government’s Greenbelt land swap.

Police say their International and Sensitive Investigations Unit is responsible for the investigation.

The province removed land from the protected Greenbelt last year as part of its broader efforts to build 1.5 million homes by 2031.

Two legislative watchdogs found the land selection process was flawed and favored some developers.

Premier Doug Ford apologized for the removal of the land and said in September it would all be returned to the Greenbelt.

He also previously said he was confident there was nothing criminal.
