RCMP looking into arrest of Rebel News commentator

(Ottawa) The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating an incident in which Rebel News commentator David Menzies was arrested while attempting to ask federal Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland a question at the outside of an event.


Sergeant Kim Chamberland said the RCMP is looking into the event and the actions of the parties involved. She declined to make further comments.

Video published by Rebel News shows Mr Menzies asking M questionsme Freeland on a sidewalk, then he is told that he is arrested for assault for pushing the police officer, while Mr. Menzies responds that the officer pushed him.

A York Regional Police spokesperson, Clint Whitney, explained that Mr. Menzies was arrested by RCMP security during the event which took place Monday in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

York police participated in the arrest, after which it was determined that there was no credible threat to safety and Mr. Menzies was released unconditionally, Mr. Whitney said.

Mr Menzies did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday evening, while Mr Menzies’ officeme Freeland had no comment.
