The Razzies awards, which recognize the worst performances in cinema, revealed their finalists on Monday. The film The Expen4ables dominates with seven selections, while actors Chris Evans and Russell Crow, and actresses Jennifer Lopez and Ana de Armas, among others, compete for worst leading roles.
The Expen4ablesthe fourth film in this American franchise, this time directed by Scott Waugh, tells the story of a group sent to Libya to prevent a mercenary from obtaining nuclear warheads on behalf of a notorious terrorist.
The film, which notably stars Sylvester Stallone, Megan Fox and Andy Garcia, is in the running in the categories worst film, worst screenplay, worst sequel, worst director, worst couple on stage (two mercenaries), worst supporting male role ( Sylvester Stallone) and worst supporting female role (Megan Fox). Movies Shazam! Fury of the Godsby David Sandberg, and Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumaniaby Peyton Reed, also stand out with four selections each.
In the coveted worst film of the year category, the five finalists are The Exorcist: Believer, Expend4bles, Meg 2: The Trench, Shazam! Fury of the Gods And Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
In the worst actor category, the nominees are Russell Crowe (The Pope’s Exorcist), Vin Diesel (Fast X), Chris Evans (Ghosted), Jason Statham (Meg 2: The Trench) and Jon Voight (Mercy). Among women, the worst actresses in leading roles are Ana de Armas (Ghosted), Megan Fox (Johnny & Clyde), Salma Hayek (Magic Mike’s Last Dance), Jennifer Lopez (The Mother), Dame Helen Mirren (Shazam! Fury of the Gods).
The Razzies awards ceremony will take place on March 9.
