Rawdon | Police chase leads to arrest

(Rawdon) A driver triggered a police pursuit in Rawdon which took place over about thirty kilometers in the early hours of Monday, before ending with the arrest of the 35-year-old suspect in the Mascouche area.



According to the information provided by the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec, Catherine Bernard, it was a call from a citizen denouncing the erratic behavior of a driver who alerted the officers of the MRC de Matawinie station to 3:30 a.m.

Patrol officers attempted to intercept the suspect vehicle at the intersection of roads 337 and 125 in Sainte-Julienne, but the driver refused to comply.

A pursuit would then have started and the police pursued the driver for about thirty kilometers.

The fugitive would have taken route 225 southbound to route 158, in Saint-Esprit. Then the chase ended on Highway 25 southbound in the Mascouche area.

Also according to the account of the events provided by the SQ, two nail mats were used and the second attempt was the correct one to punctures the fleeing vehicle which slightly hit a police car in the process.

The driver then reportedly attempted to escape the police by escaping on foot, but the officers quickly put an end to the project using an electric pulse pistol.

The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment. He was still there in the morning Monday. However, he reportedly suffered no apparent injuries.

Steps are underway to obtain blood samples since the individual is suspected of having driven his vehicle with impaired capacities by alcohol or drugs.

Charges in the matter could potentially be laid, as well as charges of flight and dangerous driving.
