The Press just changed from a star rating to a rating out of 10. But what do the new values mean? Here are some pointers to better understand our appreciation of a work.

0. Draw
It’s the kind of work that sets the bar…below which it’s impossible to go. A nadir in our life of criticism, to flee at all strides.
Example : Daddy has become a leprechaun
2. Bad

Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan in Fifty Shades Darker
It is such a failed work that it can become laughable. Or who fails to properly exploit the vein to which it owes its existence.
Example : Fifty Shades Darker (fifty shades darker)
4. Fair

PHOTO ALLIANCE, PRESS ARCHIVES
Gérard Depardieu, Clovis Cornillac and Stéphane Rousseau in Asterix at the Olympics
This is below average work. Perhaps an expected work that disappointed us, or else a work that will not mark our minds.
Example : Asterix at the Olympics
6. Good

Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody
It’s not a great work, but it has undeniable qualities. It will generally leave us with good memories.
Example : Bohemian Rhapsody
8. Excellent

PHOTO PROVIDED BY MK2 | MILE END, PRESS ARCHIVES
Andrée Lachapelle and Gilbert Sicotte in It was raining birds
It is a work that we will want to revisit over time and which is likely to end up on our end-of-year list.
Example : It was raining birds
10. Masterpiece

PHOTO PROVIDED BY WARNER BROS., LA PRESSE ARCHIVES
Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro, Paul Sorvino and Joe Pesci in Goodfellas
Can a new work be classified as an instant masterpiece? Maybe, but very rarely. A very high rating, however, indicates that this work is approaching this status.
Example : Goodfellas
