Rare Rod Stewart recording up for auction

Rod Stewart’s first studio recording will be auctioned in England by his former manager.


A real collector’s item, the cassette in question allowed the famous singer to land his first recording contract with Decca Records. The recording was made in June 1964, in a studio in Soho, London.

Among the titles found on the musical tape, let us mention Just Like I Treat You, Moppers Blues, Bright Lights Big City, Don’t Tell Nobody, Ain’t That Loving You BabyAnd worksong.

The tape is being sold as a collector’s item and free of intellectual property rights, by Cheffins Auctioneers in Cambridge. “There are armies of Sir Rod Stewart fans around the world, and this tape is an opportunity for someone to own the seminal recording that propelled his career to the top,” said Martin Millard, director at Cheffins.

“He is one of the most beloved artists of the last century, and this is an opportunity for someone to buy a piece of music history. »

The tape will be sold in an art and design sale at Cheffins in Cambridge on February 23.
