“Ready or Not” ? Rap icon Lauryn Hill has canceled her U.S. tour, which was to feature the group The Fugees, concert ticket sales platform Ticketmaster announced Wednesday, August 7. No explanation was given.

Seventeen dates, scheduled between August 9 and September 21, have been canceled on the Ticketmaster website. The platform promises an automatic refund to Lauryn Hill fans. The latter had started to be notified of the cancellations the day before, according to several American media outlets. Live Nation, the company organizing the tour The Celebration Continuesconfirmed the refund without giving any explanation. The European leg of the tour does not appear to have been affected. It is scheduled to begin in Dublin, Ireland on October 7 and end in Hamburg, Germany on November 1, 2024.

On her Instagram account, Lauryn Hill deplores these cancellations on the American continent. “It is with great difficulty that the decision has been made to cancel our upcoming North American tour dates. Last year, I dealt with an injury that required the rescheduling of some of my concerts. Unfortunately, some media outlets’ penchant for sensationalism and sensationalist headlines has seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American leg of the tour. The confidence and faith I have in my intentions and commitment to my art seems to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate image.”

She went on to express her joy at being reunited with her European fans who have not seen the group on stage for a quarter of a century.

“Not only have UK and European audiences not yet seen the anniversary show of Miseducationbut he also hasn’t seen the Fugees perform together in over 25 years! Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Each show is a part of my expression and a testament to our connection and shared love of music. I can assure you that no one is more disappointed than I am that we won’t be able to perform,” she emphasizes.

Announced after the band’s first concert in more than a decade in September 2021, this Fugees reunion tour had already been postponed, then canceled due to the Covid pandemic.

She had resumed last year, twenty-five years after the release, in 1998, of the cult solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. But the tour was again suspended due to the 49-year-old singer’s vocal injury.
