Rapper Kaaris acquitted of domestic violence charges

The 43-year-old rapper, accused by his ex-partner of domestic violence, was acquitted on Friday by the Evry criminal court. His former partner, however, received a two-month suspended prison sentence for damage to the car of Kaaris’ current partner.

Rapper Kaaris was acquitted on Friday by the criminal court of Evry (Essonne) of domestic violence of which his ex-partner accused him. By releasing Kaaris, real name Okou Gnakouri, 43 years old, the court followed the prosecution’s requisitions.

“We welcome this decision which will allow our client to move on”reacted the artist’s lawyers, Yassine Maharsi and Yassine Yakouti. “The cause of violence against women is far too noble to be exploited in this way”added the councils.

The rapper denied any violence

Kaaris assured the single judge of the court that he had never been violent towards women, such behavior being contrary to his values ​​as a father.

The rapper appeared for violence against a spouse with total incapacity for work (ITT) of more than eight days, as a legal repeat offense. His ex-partner and mother of his daughter, Linda P., accused him of having assaulted her on January 19, 2021 in the garage of the artist’s home in Linas (Essonne), by kicking and beating her. fist while tearing out his nails. In her complaint, she claimed to have needed “crutches and a support boot for two weeks”.

Kaaris contested these accusations and claimed for his part that his ex-partner had entered his home illegally by climbing a wall. The rapper, however, decided not to become a civil party on this aspect of the case that the prosecution wished to pursue.

The complainant also received a suspended sentence

On the other hand, the court sentenced Linda P., absent at the hearing, to 2 months of suspended imprisonment for minor damage to the vehicle of Kaaris’ current spouse, Marion P. The latter also requested a symbolic euro of damages and interests.

The French rapper, born in Ivory Coast, enjoyed success with the release of his album Black gold in 2013, which helped popularize in France the style of trap, a genre of rap from the southern United States.

A former protégé of rapper Booba, Kaaris has since fallen out with his mentor, a feud which led to a fight between the two men and their entourages at Orly airport in August 2018. Kaaris, like Booba, was convicted in October 2018 to 18 months suspended prison sentence for these facts. Kaaris is scheduled to perform in concert on February 17 at the Accor Arena in Paris.
