Rapper Eminem announces the release of an album for this summer, “The Death of Slim Shady”

Eminem is making his big comeback this summer with his 12th studio album titled “The Death of Slim Shady”. A record in which he will evoke the death of his lifelong alter ego, the “psychopath” Slim Shady.

This is an announcement that risks shaking up the music industry. Eminem, one of the most celebrated American rappers of his generation, announces Friday April 26 the release of his new album The Death of Slim Shady (Final Blow) this summer, in a trailer posted on social networks, according to Variety. Eminem made the announcement just after his appearance at the NFL Draft, a major annual event of the National Football League, the national American football league in the United States.

The trailer shows a reporter discussing the death of Eminem’s alter ego, “psychopath” Slim Shady, at a crime scene. “Thanks to his complex, often criticized and tongue-twisting rhymes, the anti-hero known as Slim Shady has had no shortage of enemies.”explains the reporter in the video.

An “insane” album

Rapper 50 Cent, a long-time friend and associate of Eminem with whom he shared the Superbowl halftime show in 2022, then makes a short appearance. “He’s not a friend, he’s a psychopath.”, he declares. The journalist continues: “The same crude words and controversial antics may well have led to his downfall. Join me as I recreate the events that led to Slim Shady’s murder.” Eminem himself makes an appearance, stating: “I knew it was only a matter of time for Slim.”

Slim Shady has long been an alter ego of Eminem, since Slim Shady EP (1997) and The Slim Shady LP, published two years later. The character was frequently used to deliver his most aggressive and violent lyrics, which made him a controversial rapper early in his career. This alter ego is present on many titles like Guilty Consciousness, ’97 Bonnie and Clyde Or Kill You.

The rapper had released his latest album by surprise, Music to Be Murdered Byin January 2020. The album experienced immediate success, ranking at the top of the American Billboard 200 ranking, notably thanks to the hit Godzilla with Juice Wrld. On March 19, rap icon Dr. Dre declared on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live that this new album was “demented“.
