The film Why are you smiling ? features two men in trouble. One is allergic to work, the other pretends to be an illegal immigrant to get shelter from a somewhat naive humanitarian. The atypical and poetic duo is played by Jean-Pascal Zadi and Raphaël Quenard, the two new darlings of French cinema. In the interest of realism, Jean-Pascal Zadi was inspired by his father’s way of speaking. “There are a lot of Ivorian expressions that I put in it”explains the actor.
The two actors, funny and offbeat, display a complicity visible on screen as in life. “I often imagine the image of two cells becoming one.”believes Raphaël Quenard, when Jean-Pascal Zadi speaks of “friendly love at first sight”The first spectators are won over by this duo. “They complement each other really well, because they are each funny in their own way.”says a woman.
