Raonic and Diallo to play singles for Canada at Davis Cup

Milos Raonic and Gabriel Diallo will play singles in Canada’s quarterfinal duel against Finland on Tuesday at the Davis Cup finals.

A Tennis Canada spokesperson indicated that Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime, who confirmed the country’s triumph against Australia in the final of the competition last year, is bothered by discomfort in his lower body.

Raonic, of Thornhill, Ont., will play the first singles match against Patrick Kaukovalta at Martin Carpena Arena, while Diallo, of Montreal, will face Otto Virtanen.

Vasek Pospisil of Vernon, B.C., and Alexis Galarneau of Laval are next scheduled to play doubles against Harri Heliovaara and Patrik Niklas-Salminen.

Auger-Aliassime is the only Canadian player in the world top-100 in singles present in Malaga, by virtue of his 29e rank.

The winner of the duel between Canada and Finland will meet the Czech Republic or Australia in the semi-finals on Friday. The final will then take place on Sunday.
