(Toronto) Artemi Panarin moved the strings in overtime and the New York Rangers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 on Monday night.
Mika Zibanejad added a goal and an assist for Rangers, collecting his 100e more than one point game in the NHL. Igor Shesterkin made 40 saves.
Michael Bunting replied for the Maple Leafs, who saw Jack Campbell fend off 21 pucks.
Panarin gave the Rangers the victory at 3:48 in an exciting overtime period. He accepted a pass from Zibanejad before outwitting Campbell on the blocker’s side.
Auston Matthews made his debut this season for the Maple Leafs, after missing the first three games of the season because he was healing a left wrist injury.
It was the first visit by an American NHL club to the Scotiabank Arena since August 9, 2020. The Columbus Blue Jackets then eliminated the Maple Leafs in the NHL qualifying series.
