THE’State will devote an additional 500 million euros to the deployment of charging stations for electric vehicles in France. Terminals that will be installed in condominiums, car parks and on the road. This sum comes on top of the 100 million euros already released under the Advenir program, which makes it possible to cover up to 60% of the costs of installing terminals by the various operators. Part of this investment will be used for the electrification of heavy goods vehicles via dedicated charging stations.
There is still a big difference between the development goals of the electric car and the number of charging stations. We are a long way from the objective of 100,000 terminals open to the public that the government had set for the end of this year. According to the Minister of Transport, there will be a shortage of 15,000 by 2025 to be at the right level of equipment. On certain motorway areas in France, it is easier to see entire lines of charging stations from the American Tesla than from our French and European groups.
Brussels intends to ban the sale of thermal vehicles in 2035. Manufacturers are therefore rushing to reassure future customers of electric cars with announcement effects on charging stations. We have to lift the brakes on buying but that does not settle anything on the merits. Not to mention the question of supplying these terminals, in the long term, with random renewable energies. It is a long way from dream to reality.
That said, the efforts are constant. In the United Kingdom, the installation of a charging point will be mandatory in new buildings from January 1. On the manufacturer side, Stellantis (formerly PSA) is joining forces with an Italian start-up to develop charging points in more than 15,000 locations. Volkswagen intends to invest 400 million euros by 2025 in a vast network of recharging. As for TotalEnergies, it recently announced the equipment of its service stations on the motorways. Full of electricity in 20 minutes flat. To keep its promise, TotalEnergies will invest 200 million euros in it.
