Ramier Island

Green! It’s true. Disèm l’Isla del Ramièr but in reality, podèm to speak of a set of islas located between los dos braces de Garona. Yes, we are talking about the Ile du Ramier but in reality, it is a group of islands located between the two arms of the Garonne: from north to south, you have the islets of Banlève, the island of Grand Ramier, the island of Empalot, the islet of Rabbits and finally the island of Saudrune. But, by the way, why this name?

What does Ramièr mean?

E ben escotatz, in País Mondin / in Toulouse country, a ramièr designates a small flood-prone wood located on the edge of a river. Un còp èra / In the past, woodpigeons could be exploited for firewood / lenha or even summer pasture. This denomination is used on the banks of the Garonne and the Ariège. At the beginning of the sègle passat / at the very beginning of the 20th century, the municipality of Honoré Serres created the “Parc toulousain” on the Ile du Ramier, a 50-hectare green space, a veritable Eldorado for Toulouse residents up to half of the 20th century: las gents de Tolosa i venián per dançar, per beure o manjar quicòm / at the time, the inhabitants of Toulouse came to the island of Ramier to dance, drink or have a bite to eat.

But history will repeat itself…

Indeed, the Toulouse municipality wishes to make Île du Ramier the future green lung of the metropolis: deconstruction of the former Exhibition Center, creation of doas palancas / creation of two footbridges located on each side of the river. On the southern part of the Ile du Ramier, the mens coneguda e la mai salvatja / the least known and the wildest, Toulouse Métropole will be responsible for restoring the banks and renaturing them all around the island.

Next to the Stadium, there will also be changes:

Other còps, i aviá un restaurant universitari / the former university restaurant Daniel Faucher, closed for 21 years following the explosion of AZF, will become the performance center of Toulouse Football Club. Pel club, is the opportunity to poder acampar a l’encòp totas sas installations / for the TFC, it is an opportunity to be able to group all of its installations on the same site: very close to the Stadium, and the center training grounds, where two additional pitches were created last year. D’òbras plan importantas se faràn fins en 2025 / major works are planned until 2025. In short, Ramier Island has not finished evolving and transforming.
