If the return of the rain is good news, it is contaminated with toxic substances and therefore unfit for consumption, everywhere in the world, according to a Swedish study.

The findings of a Swedish study are alarming. “There is nowhere on Earth where rainwater would be safe to drink.not”, asserts its author, Ian Cousins, professor at the University of Stockholm. Researchers compiled data on rainwater all over the world and found that it contained PFAS, “eternal chemicals” which take a long time to disintegrate. They are found in shampoos, packaging and even make-up.

Too much increase in PFAS can increase the risk of cancer, have harmful effects on fertility, or even increase the risk of poor fetal development. Even in Antarctica and Nepal, where researchers thought they would find relatively pure water, rain contains 14 times more PFAS than the recommendations for a country like the United States. This presence of PFAS would be practically irreversible.
