Rain of stars for the big reunion

Rage Against The Machine, Maroon 5, Luke Combs and a trio of Quebec stars will take part in the great reunion of the Festival d’été de Québec with the Plains of Abraham in July.

First scheduled for July 7 to 17, the FEQ will exceptionally take off one evening earlier, Wednesday 6, with a carte blanche concert featuring Charlotte Cardin.

Halsey, Alanis Morissette, the singer of the mega-hit DespacitoLuis Fonsi, Jack Johnson, DG Marshmello, Half Moon Run, Loud (also in white card) and the group $uicideboy$ will be the other headliners on the Plains.

Halsey

Although several names (Morissette, RATM, Johnson, Marshmello, Halsey) were on the poster for the festival which was canceled in 2020, programmer Louis Bellavance says he did not have an easy task during the development of the timetable.

“Alanis, three or four times I thought it wouldn’t work because the tour was leaving in the fall. Same thing for RATM, I don’t know how many times they moved the tour. It was a roller coaster. »

Maroon 5, the ace in the sleeve

Brown 5

As the festival-goers had guessed the identity of several artists, Louis Bellavance wanted to pull an ace out of his sleeve. The surprise element was Maroon 5.

“It was impossible to connect us to them, unless someone spoke,” said Louis Bellavance, referring to information obtained first by The newspaperthe day before.

After a few years of absence, the country will return to the Plains through the very popular Luke Combs.

The FEQ is also testing its festival-goers’ interest in Latin music by inviting Luis Fonsi. “It’s a booming market and Quebec is one of the strongest areas of this movement,” points out Mr. Bellavance.

Classic rock skips its turn

Among the notable absentees from the lineup in 2022, there are classic rock artists, who have nevertheless been raining and shining at the FEQ since international stars have occupied the Plains.

Time passes, observes Louis Bellavance.

“We do not close the door, but it ends. These artists will soon be gone and those that are still around are not at their peak. »

Europeans are also rare on the 2022 grid, a phenomenon which is not specific to the FEQ, testifies its programmer.

“It crosses the ocean less. There are many artists in Europe this year. They are the ones with the big slice of the pie. It’s hard to compete with them financially and I have the feeling that the artists listened to the offers from Europe before ours. I look at what we have and I trip, but it is sure that there are cases that we have escaped. »

Luis Fonsi

The name of one of Luis Fonsi’s opening acts is expected to be announced on Thursday. It will then remain to disclose, within a month, the list of artists who will perform at the Armory.
