Rain-flooding, floods, storms… Eight departments in the South now placed on orange alert by Météo-France

The Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Ardèche and Drôme join the five departments already concerned.

Météo-France is extending its orange alert to three additional departments on Saturday, September 7. In total, eight departments are on alert. The Pyrénées-Atlantiques are affected by a flood alert while Ardèche and Drôme are affected by a storm alert. Creuse, Haute-Vienne, Corrèze, Dordogne and Hautes-Pyrénées are on orange rain-flood alert. The Hautes-Pyrénées, like the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, are on flood alert.

Météo-France reports an “active rain and storm situation over a large part of the country this afternoon, this evening and the night from Saturday to Sunday”, with “an extension of the orange alert to other departments remains possible”.

Météo-France reported that “accumulations greater than 100 mm on the high chain” from the Hautes-Pyrénées, with “170 mm for example in Gavarnie”. The rains have poured “often between 40 and 80 mm” in the Pyrenees-Atlantiques, with “points greater than 100 mm towards the relief”specifies the same source. Peaks between 150 and 250 mm are still expected near the Spanish border, warns Météo-France.
